The project

Wikimedia Italia, a non-profit association that since 2005 promotes the improvement and advancement of knowledge and culture, participates in “Wiki Loves Monuments”, and manages the Italian edition of the world's largest photographic competition. For this contest, which takes place every year throughout the month of September, Wikimedia felt the need to create a web app that could facilitate and enhance cultural heritage, as well as encourage users and the community to upload quality photographs of italian monuments on Wikimedia Commons.

API
A REST API was implemented to expose the database data, useful both for the WikiLovesMonuments app and other projects that can utilize this data.

A web app that allows the search of Italian monuments also on a geographical basis and with map visualization. The app allows the uploading of images both during the Contest period and throughout the year, automatically categorizing the uploaded images.

Inmagik took care of the UX and UI Design of the web app, optimizing it for both Mobile and Desktop. Lastly, it worked on the implementation of the app and a data synchronization system that interacts with the databases of Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.
