Digital Benin

The project

Digital Benin’s online platform focuses on the exhibition and enhancement of each object, historical photography and documentary material from global collections. Its aim is to provide an exhaustive overview of the royal artifacts of the Kingdom of Benin, looted at the end of the 19th century and long in demand.

New academic research is thus introduced, creating a link between the digital documentation of transferred objects and what can be called the heart of the culture of Benin: Oral History, research on objects, historical context, fundamental catalogue of the Edo language, names of origin, map of the Kingdom of Benin and museum collections from all over the world; The data of 5285 objects from 136 institutions in 20 countries are linked.

The result

Inmagik has been responsible for the partial development of the platform, in collaboration with Studio Calibro, on the pre-existing design of Digital Benin.

Catalogue: collection of art objects and artifacts related to the culture of Benin, explorable thanks to filters for correspondence, museum, type of object and more. Each object is accompanied by detailed descriptions, high-resolution images and information on the historical and cultural context.

Digital Benin

Map: interactive display of the geographical sites linked to the objects in the catalogue, for a better understanding of the distribution and importance of Benin’s artifacts in their original environment. Equipped with filters that allow you to analyze the map in detail and discover different places.
